You drove to Schweizerhalle ...
... in the 70s and 80s of the 19th century. This with carriages and steamers, only here to cures and to bathe. The nearby salt pans were the reason that a hotel Soolbad was built here. The business went so well that in 1873 an annex for the hotel was built, today's Gasthof Solbad.
Around 1900 in Switzerland began the large spa deaths and Schweizerhalle has lost the fight against the nearby Rheinfelden. Then the chemistry moved into Schweizerhalle, attracted by the raw materials salt of the salt pans and water of the Rhine. Soon it became the most important chemical center in Switzerland and the Gasthof Solbad became the property of the Schweizerhall acid factory. In 1976 the old Solbad was extensively renovated and extended with a hall extension. This served the nearby chemistry as mensa and is still well attended at lunchtime today.
At the end of the year 2000, Solbad Gastronomie AG, founded by Hortensia Hermann, Andreas Uebersax and Sascha Brestler, acquired the inn and started the careful and gradual renovation of the building. In the summer of 2003 the summer park was opened and in autumn 2007 the Schlüsselzunft in Basel was added.
